As a community organization, we welcome all forms of donations. In order to keep the House running and our guests comfortable, we always need donations of clothing, housewares, toiletries and food. We have equal demands for male and female donation items.
Personal items most in demand:
- Seasonal clothing, new or slightly worn.
- New or slightly worn underwear.
- Personal hygiene and health products.
- Tickets for local upcoming events or activities
House items in demand:
- Used dryer
- New fridge
- New freezer
- Bottled water
Food for meals – we provide 2 to 3 meals a day almost daily: bulk products, meats, cereals, etc., are always necessary to prepare meals. We also enjoy receiving pies, pans, etc …
Non-perishable food items to be included in the emergency food bags we distribute once a week. Canned goods, rice, and dry food are good additions for these bags.
Another way to help us is to give us the gift of your time. There are several different ways you can offer us your time. Here are a few ideas:
Volunteer work: Labre House relies heavily on the dedicated work and energy of unpaid human resources. Volunteers work in all areas of service and animation. Training and orientation are available.
Meal Teams: Group together as a team of 4 to 8 people from your school, parish or organization, to prepare, bring and serve a meal for our guests. Book in advance.
Student Internships: We welcome students from different programs as interns. You have the opportunity to work with our guests here at the organization, and to experiment with different roles in a community organization.
Plan a food drive or fundraiser: Through your local school, parish, employer, or just friends, plan an event to raise funds for the house. Events may include: car wash, festival, game, dance.
It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child but in our case it takes a community to run this house. Our volunteers are our most precious resource, if it were not for the generosity of our volunteers we would have a very hard time keeping this machine going. It is thanks to volunteers that we get our weekly food donations from Moisson Montreal; that we get bread donations; that we have help in our kitchen for meal preparation; that we get our Christmas celebration organized and executed; that we get the clothes sorted for the clothing room; that we get our donations organized and put away and the myriad of other things that are just too numerous to mention that help with daily functioning of our house.
If you or your class, team or organization have any interest in offering a helping hand toward your community, please feel free to email email@example.com for more information or fill out the form above to volunteer as a meal team.
Volunteering as a team requires that you bring the supplied and meal that you wish to serve. Our staff is always happy to support and help with any teams that come. Meals are served almost every day of the week, three times a day so we are always grateful for any help that is offered!
